The labeling and packaging for 3M CD Recordable media was designed to provide maximum product protection while also offering unique user features. To maintain the integrity of the disc and the data stored on the disc, please use the following care and handling guidelines.
| Handle the disc only by the outer edge... | ...to prevent fingerprints and smears on the surface. Never touch the green recording surface or place it face down on a hard surface. |
| Do not leave the disc in direct sunlight or in a hot, humid environment. | These conditions may warp and damage the disc. |
| Store the disc in the protective case. | Proper storage helps protect then data from damage due to scratches on the disc surface. |
| Store 3M CD-R media within this Temperature/Humidity* range: | -5°C to +30°C,
5%RH to 60% RH (*Maximum wet bulb = 29°C) Do not allow moisture to condense on the disc. |
| Use a soft, lint-free cloth for cleaning the disc. | To remove spots, dust, or
fingerprints; always wipe from the center to the outer edges and never wipe in a circular
motion.
|
| Do not use abrasive or solvent cleaners... | ...or conventional vinyl record cleaning solution on the disc. Chemical-based cleaners can damage the disc. |
| Use only a felt tip permanent pen when labeling. | Write only on the printed
area or on the clear inner diameter of the disc. Never use a ball-point or hard point
writing utensil as it may damage the disc.
|
| Do not use adhesive labels... | ...the adhesive layer may damage the disc surface. |
| Disc Labeling Area | Since writing directly on the
gold surface of the CD-Recordable disc can cause physical damage to the disc, 3M has
provided a "special" area for adding disc contents or identification. This
special label marking area is located on the bottom third of the 3M Brand CD Recordable
media and is denoted with a white area containing grey guide lines (similar to notebook
paper). For optimal disc labeling while maintaining product integrity, 3M recommends using only felt-tip permanent pens on the designated label area. These pens contain ink that adhere quickly to the printed surface of the discs and make it dry to the touch almost immediately. Therefore, the user can permanently record the disc contents with minimal, if any, smearing.
